Responsibilities:

  • Direct research, development, and implementation of innovative technologies to support Digital Surgery. Products to enable real-time presentation of information for surgical systems and instruments.
  • Build and guide cross-functional teams towards the next generation Digital Surgery platform, including advancing the vision of tomorrow's operating room, building of prototype platforms, collecting of expert feedback, and guide product development.
  • Coordinate and run hands-on labs and studies with surgeons and surgical staff to test the system and value proposition.
  • Advance the vision and state-of-the-art in the field of Digital Surgery including generating patents and supporting the research community through grant advising, and staying informed of ground-breaking technologies, publications and conferences.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Masters in Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent degree
  • 3 years experience leading teams or project teams working on medical devices or medical device software for surgical systems, such as image-guided surgery platforms
  • 3 years experience throughout the full development lifecycle of surgical technology solution (including user feedback) and familiarity with industry and regulatory (FDA, etc) standards
  • Ability to manage/lead projects with direct reports or external teams
  • Attention to detail and excellent interpersonal skills, both written and verbal
  • Self-motivated, a flexible team player with the ability to define goals, even in ambiguous or over-constrained environments.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaborate with cross-functional teams to accept challenges and responsibilities
  • Ability to travel up to 10%
  • Ability to work at either the Santa Clara, CA or Munich, Germany site

Preferred:

  • Advanced Degree
  • Experience working with external teams or conducting usability studies with 3rd party companies and surgical teams
  • Experience communicating project needs and status vertically to various levels of management and laterally to internal key stakeholders
  • Knowledge in medical imaging analysis and imaging modalities (such as CT, MRI, PET, US) for image-guided surgery
